THE GIRL - The Confession

After dinner, Kyo excuses himself to go out somewhere. Tohru asks him to stop and tells him she wants to talk to him. As she is about to confess her feelings for him, Kyo asks her if she loves him. Tohru is caught by surprise and before she can answer, Kyo tells her that she's stupid for feeling that way and leaves. Tohru chases after him, begging him to listen to her and he turns around, angrily telling her that she has no clue what he has done. When he sees Tohru's expression and realises that she does love him, he stops and says that her mother never should have died.

Kyo tells her that he knew her mother as a child and that he was with her the day she died. He could have stopped her from being hit by the car that killed her but he was too afraid to have his curse revealed. He breaks down, saying that if he held onto her he could have prevented some of the injuries and she may have lived. He blames himself entirely for the accident and goes on to tell Tohru that his own mother died because she couldn't handle being around him. He also tells Tohru that Kyoko recognized him and the last thing she said was "I won't forgive you."

Kyo then goes on to tell Tohru that it was these last words that resulted in Kazuma taking him away for a four-month training trip in the mountains. He confesses that he wanted to kill himself but in the end, began to blame Yuki for everything that had happened and when Akito made the deal for him to win against Yuki, it made his hatred easier. Kyo asks if Tohru can ever forgive him because he can't forgive himself and doesn't want Tohru to either, coming back to Kyoko's last words.

Amidst tears, Tohru looks at Kyo and asks if she has to say that she can't forgive him. She says she can't believe that her mother would say something like that to Kyo and if she did, she has to go against her. She then confesses to Kyo outright that she loves him. Kyo is shocked and tells her that she's delusional. When Yuki comes out of the house, Kyo runs off, leaving Tohru alone and rejected. Yuki tells Tohru to come inside while he looks for Kyo.

Tohru is too shocked to go inside after Yuki leaves. As she stands there, taking in Kyo's answer, Akito comes out of the bushes. The two fight and wander further into the woods, but Tohru is able to reach out to Akito and offers to become friends. Just as they are to shake hands, the cliff that Tohru is standing on crumbles away and she falls. Akito desperately calls for someone to come help her; Shigure, Yuki and Kyo all hear and eventually come. When Kyo sees Tohru on the ground, he loses it. As he cries over her body begging her not to die, Tohru reaches up and touches him on the face, thinking about how glad she is to have met him. She weakly tells him that it's okay and she's okay. They hold hands and Kyo tells her that he understands and she shouldn't speakā€¦ and he leans over and kisses her gently.

Tohru is taken to the hospital and Kyo doesn't visit, feeling that if he goes, he will only hurt her further. He feels guilty about being unable to protect her. When he does eventually visit, Uotani and Hanajima barr him from entering Tohru's room, as punishment for telling her that her feelings were delusional.

Several days later, when Tohru is released from the hospital, Kyo is finally able to see her. When he arrives, he worries if Tohru's feelings will have changed since she thought he rejected her and worries about what it is he loves about her himself. When he sees her, all of his worries melt away in an instant as he realises it doesn't matter: he just loves her. When Tohru notices him, she runs away crying. XD;

Kyo chases after Tohru and when he finally catches up to her, he holds her hand and apologises for making her cry and for hurting her. He asks her to give him the chance to be with her because he hates being without her and confesses to her that he loves her. Tohru is shocked and cries hard in happiness and Kyo calms her down by kissing her. (He also mentions it's not the first time and Tohru can't remember it at all! Oops!) Pulling Tohru to her feet, Kyo asks permission to hug her and says that the curse wlil give their relationship strange circumstances. Tohru just smiles and says that she doesn't care about any of that: she loves Kyo and that's all that matters.

Kyo pulls Tohru in for a hug and as they stand in each other's arms, it takes a moment before they realise that Kyo has not yet transformed. Kyo pulls the bracelet off of his wrist and when he doesn't transform into his true form, Tohru's eyes well up with tears of happiness. Kyo, also tearing up, looks towards the sky and thinks "good-bye" as he feels the connection to Akito being severed. The curse is finally broken and they are able to hold onto each other as long as they want.
