THE GIRL - Carefree Days
Hanajima and Uotani approach Yuki and Kyo to tell them that they're going to help pitch in to buy Tohru a brand new bathing suit. Kyo is absolutely embarrassed to be tagging along with the girls in the store. When asked what colour he thinks would look best on Tohru, he says orange. Hmmm…. orange like himself, maybe…? Kyo, you naughty boy! XDHatsuharu is dumped by Rin and while he's at school, ends up turning into Black Haru. When they try to calm him down, Black Haru turns his attention to Tohru. Nothing bad happens but afterwards, Kyo protectively tells Tohru that she needs to be careful around Haru when he's in that state.
Another day after school, Momiji brings Tohru, Yuki, Kyo and Hatsuharu to a haunted house in a nearby department store. Tohru is absolutely horrified at the prospect but decides to go in anyway to try to conquer her fears. Kyo offers to hold her hand so she can make it through with her eyes closed. He ends up arguing with Yuki over it and Momiji ends up taking Tohru's hand instead, much to his dismay.
SUMMER HOLIDAY
When the holidays arrive, everyone is invited to the Sohma's family villa located on the sea side. Things are going well until Akito shows up and cruelly demands that everyone but Kyo and Tohru come visit him in the guest house. Tohru is upset that she's unable to spend the days with everyone but she and Kyo make the best of it. At first, Akito feels satisfied that leaving Kyo with Tohru is okay until she actually sees them having fun together on the beach. Wanting Tohru to understand her place, Akito calls even Kyo away one day.
Kyo's encounter with Akito is less than thrilling and leaves him with the realisation that he has come to love Tohru very much; he wants her to be his alone but because he believes he will be locked away for the rest of his life at the end of graduation, he decides not to act on his feelings. Instead, he resolves to spend every single waking day with Tohru, enjoying what little time he has left with her until he's forced to leave.
Eventually Tohru does learn directly from a violent confrontation with Akito that Kyo will be confined for the rest of his life after high school. Akito also tells her that it's the destiny of all the other zodiac members to stay at her side for eternity and that Tohru can never be a part of it. It's after this confrontation that Tohru resolves to break the curse so that everyone -- specifically Kyo -- can be free.
